About

Ancestral Be-Kin instruct and advise individuals, families and organizations engaged in agriculture, agricultural-related processes, farming management activities and develop educational outreach programs. Providing advance agricultural knowledge & understanding to encourage agricultural activities since 2021.

Preserving History & Bridging The Gap

In the country, the majority of Black farmers are over 65 years old. Many elderly farmers have no one to pass their farms to because their descendants live in distant cities and have negative views towards farming.

Ancestral Be-Kin's mission is to improve the social, economic, and cultural landscape of Black farmers while reconnecting with the land in a deeper, enduring, and regenerative manner.

The organization aims to build lasting relationships by providing opportunities for young Black farmers from nearby and distant areas to connect with elders, learn agricultural practices, and prepare themselves to manage farms.

The Southern Agrarian Training Center bridges gaps between older Black farmers and the next generation by passing on the art of rural living through:

  • Hosting Student Groups and Interns:

Facilitating immersive programming for student groups dedicated to food justice, environmental sustainability, and advancing Black land sovereignty and self-determination.

  • Preserving a Vanishing Archive: Hosting student archivists w' work to document Black agrarian legacies through oral histories and photo/video projects.

- Hosting Black artists and cultural workers pursuing fellowship opportunities engaging Black Southern agrarian traditions.

Current Events

Currently, we are partnering with individuals in our extended community/ network across the country to build a Southern Agrarian Training Center opening fall 2026.

“it’s about land and people, it’s about building in a specific place, time and building toward the future we all deserve.”
